Parlour Guitars

Nine Tanglewood parlour guitars from £129 to £699. Small, comfortable and warm sounding, in acoustic and electro acoustic versions.

Parlour guitars from Tanglewood

A parlour guitar is a compact acoustic with a small body and a warm, focused voice. We have nine Tanglewood parlour guitars, priced from £129 to £699. They are popular with players who find a full size guitar bulky, and with anyone who wants something light for the sofa or a quiet corner of the house.

What to expect from a parlour acoustic guitar

The small body gives a sweet tone with less boom than a dreadnought. That makes a parlour acoustic guitar a good match for fingerstyle, blues and gentle strumming. It is also comfortable for younger players and for anyone with a shorter reach. If you want more volume, our dreadnought guitars are the next step up.

The parlour range

  • Crossroads TWCRP and Crossroads TC TC8, both £129 with mahogany tops.
  • Roadster TR8E and Roadster X TRX8E, both £299 and fitted with electronics.
  • Elemental TE8EBL at £349, with a solid mahogany top.
  • Union TUN8E at £399, also solid mahogany and electro.
  • Union Folk TUR8 at £499, a parlour resonator with a mahogany top.
  • Java TJ8E at £649 with a solid spruce top.
  • Sundance Classic TSC8E at £699 with a solid cedar top.

Choosing a parlour electro acoustic guitar

Most of the parlour models above are electros, so you can plug into an amp when you need more volume. The two Crossroads guitars are plain acoustics and the lowest priced way in. If you want a solid top, begin with the Elemental or Union at £349 to £399. The resonator TUR8 is the one to pick for a bluesy, metallic bite.

Because every model is compact, the main differences come down to wood, electronics and price. A solid mahogany top gives a woody, intimate tone, while spruce is a touch brighter and cedar a touch softer. Think about where you will play most often. For quiet practice at home any of them will do, and for small gigs or open mic nights an electro model saves you from buying a separate pickup later.
