Electro-Acoustic Ukuleles

Six Tanglewood electro-acoustic ukuleles from £129 to £269, in concert, tenor and baritone sizes, built to plug into an amp or PA.

Electro acoustic ukulele models you can plug in

An electro acoustic ukulele sounds like a normal ukulele when played unplugged, but it also has a built in pickup and preamp, so you can connect it to an amplifier, a PA or a recording interface. That makes it the practical choice for open mic nights, band rehearsals and anyone who wants to be heard in a bigger room. We have six Tanglewood models, from £129 to £269.

Choose by size

The three sizes on this page each suit a different player.

  • Concert: an electro acoustic concert ukulele is a comfortable middle size. The TWT 8 E with a koa top and the TWT 12 E with an ovangkol top are both £199. They come from the Tiare Concert series.
  • Tenor: an electro acoustic tenor ukulele has a deeper voice. The TWT 19 is £129, the TWT 15 E is £229 and the 8 string TWT32E is £269.
  • Baritone: an electro acoustic baritone ukulele is the largest and lowest. The TWT 20 is £169 with an ebony top.

Woods to consider

Koa gives a warm, rounded tone and appears on two of the six models. Ebony on the TWT 19 and TWT 20 offers a bright, defined sound. Ovangkol on the TWT 12 E and Pacific walnut on the TWT 15 E each bring a slightly different warmth, so it is worth reading the individual model pages.

What else will you need?

You will need a lead to connect to your amplifier, and a tuner helps keep things sharp on stage. Take a look at our guitar cables and tuners and capos. For practice at home or small gigs, an acoustic guitar amplifier also works well with a ukulele.

Playing live with a ukulele

When you plug in, the sound is shaped by the pickup, so a little time spent adjusting the volume and tone controls pays off. Start with the controls at the middle, set the amplifier clean, and raise the level slowly until you hear your own playing clearly. Keeping the instrument unplugged for practice also saves any battery power, which is handy before a gig.

If you would rather browse every size, including non electric models, head to the main ukuleles page, or look at tenor ukuleles and concert ukuleles separately. Free UK delivery comes with every order.
