Tanglewood TWT12E Tiare Ovangkol Electro Acoustic Concert Ukulele

Ovangkol tone with a pickup ready to plug in

The Tanglewood TWT12E is an electro acoustic ukulele that stays simple. It is a concert size Tiare with ovangkol on the top, back and sides, and TEQ-TUT electronics fitted so you can go straight to an amp or PA. At £199 it is the sensible choice if you play out.

Electronics

The TEQ-TUT system includes a tuner, so you can check pitch between songs without reaching for a clip. Plug in and the amplified sound stays close to what you hear in the room. That matters on a small stage where you get one quick soundcheck.

Ovangkol and the sound

Ovangkol is a warm wood with a rounded centre and some sparkle on top. Because the whole body is made from it, the voice is even from the lowest string to the highest. The back is arched, and the concert size adds volume over a soprano.

Neck and finish

The natural satin finish shows off the grain without looking shiny. A laser-cut Tiare rosette sits at the soundhole. The mahogany neck is smooth, the Eboncore fingerboard is comfortable, and chrome die-cast tuners keep it in pitch.

Who it suits

Think of players who gig, busk with a small amp or record at home. The TWT12E gives you an easy route to all three without changing instrument. Keep it simple at home too, because it sounds good unplugged and you can use the tuner whenever you like. It is also a sensible first electro for a student.

Looking for the same electronics with a different wood? The TWT8E has a koa body at the same £199. If you only play at home, the TWT11 or TWT6 give you a similar spend with no pickup. The TWT12E is for the player who wants an electro acoustic concert ukulele without fuss.
