Tanglewood Union Folk: two different takes on the folk guitar
The Tanglewood Union Folk series is a tiny range with two very different instruments. Neither is a standard flat top, so this is the page to visit if you want a folk acoustic guitar with a bit of character. Prices are £449 and £499.
The thinline hybrid
The Tanglewood TU3TLCESB is a thinline hybrid electro-acoustic with a spruce top, priced at £449. The slimmer body is easier to sit with and reduces feedback when you play loudly through an amp. It is a practical choice for gigging, or for anyone who finds a deep dreadnought body awkward.
The parlour resonator
The Tanglewood TUR8 is a parlour resonator with a mahogany body, at £499. It is a pure acoustic with no pickup. A resonator has a metal cone that gives a bright, ringing tone, which is a classic sound for slide, blues and old-time folk. If you have not played one before, it is a very different feel from a normal acoustic.

Which one suits you?
Choose the thinline if you want a stage-friendly electro-acoustic. Choose the resonator if you want a distinctive tone and a compact size. Neither replaces a standard flat top, so many players add one of these as a second guitar.
A second guitar with a purpose
Many players own a main guitar already and look for something that does a different job. A thinline that stays quiet on stage and a resonator that cuts through a mix are both good examples. They also work well in the studio or at home, where a different tone can inspire a new idea or a different style of playing.
