Tenor ukulele models for a fuller sound
A tenor ukulele has a longer scale and a larger body than the soprano or concert size. The result is more room for your fingers, a deeper tone and a little more volume, which is why many players move up to one after starting small. All five models here are part of the Tanglewood Tiare Tenor series, priced between £129 and £269.
Standard and electro-acoustic tenors
The TWT 19 is a tenor electro-acoustic ukulele with an ebony top at £129, which makes it the most affordable way to plug in. The TWT 15 E uses a Pacific walnut top and costs £229. Both have electronics, so you can connect to an amplifier or PA without needing a microphone. If you are looking for an electro acoustic tenor ukulele, these two are a good place to begin. See all pickup models on our electro-acoustic ukuleles page.
Extra strings, extra shimmer
Two of the models are not standard four string instruments.
- The TWT31 is an 8 string tenor with a mahogany top at £169. The strings are paired in courses, giving a bright, chiming sound.
- The TWT33 is a 5 string tenor with a Pacific walnut top, also £169.
- The TWT32E combines the 8 string layout with electronics and a koa top at £269, our top tenor.
Is a tenor right for you?
Choose a tenor if you have larger hands, you like a deeper sound or you want to play fingerstyle with more space between frets. If you would rather keep things compact, a concert ukulele is only slightly smaller and starts at £89. The full ukulele range also has soprano and baritone sizes.
Woods across the range
Ebony, Pacific walnut, mahogany and koa each appear on the tops here. Ebony tends to sound bright and focused, walnut and mahogany lean warmer, and koa sits in between with a sweet, open tone. Because there are only five models, it is easy to compare them and pick the sound that matches your style, whether strummed or picked.
Tenor ukuleles are a natural step for guitarists, as the longer scale feels more familiar. You may also like a spare set of strings and a clip on tuner to keep your instrument sounding right. Delivery in the UK is free.
