Tanglewood Crossroads TC guitars

If you like the idea of a Tanglewood Crossroads guitar, the TC range is a tidy way to shop it. There are 9 models in the series, priced from £129 to £199, and every guitar here has a mahogany top. The prices make it a sensible choice for a first guitar, a gift or a second instrument.

Models and prices

Five models cost £129 and have no electronics. They are the TC3 Orchestra, the TC2 Travel, the TC8 Parlour and the TC5 Dreadnought.

Three models cost £199 and add a pickup: the TC3E Orchestra, the TC4CE Super Folk Cutaway and the TC5CE Dreadnought Cutaway. The cutaway makes the top frets easier to reach.

Picking a body shape

  • Travel and parlour: the smallest bodies, good for children, small hands, holidays and quiet practice.
  • Orchestra: a balanced size that is comfortable sitting down.
  • Dreadnought: the biggest voice here, a good match for strumming with a band or singer.
  • Super Folk cutaway: a slimmer waist with a cutaway for lead playing.

TC or the original Crossroads

The Crossroads series covers many of the same shapes, and its range reaches £209 with a left-handed model. Both sit under the same brand, so you can pick by the shape you like rather than the series name. If you want to see small instruments side by side, visit small and travel acoustic guitars or our parlour guitars.

Extras worth adding

The TC guitars are priced to leave room for a few extras. A gig bag keeps the guitar protected, a tuner helps beginners stay in tune, and a spare set of strings avoids a stalled practice session. The electro models need a guitar cable and an acoustic amplifier if you plan to play with other people. Together these cost far less than the guitar itself, and they make a sensible gift bundle.

Choosing between the models is simple. Ask if you need a pickup, which decides between £129 and £199, and then pick the body that feels right. Players new to the guitar often find the smaller orchestra, parlour and travel bodies friendlier, while those who already play may want the dreadnought for its fuller sound and extra volume.
