Tanglewood Winterleaf Blonde series
The Tanglewood Winterleaf Blonde series is a small family of electro-acoustic guitars with a pale, distinctive finish. If you know the wider Tanglewood Winterleaf range, this is its lighter-looking side. The guitar here is the Tanglewood TW4CEBLA Winterleaf Blonde Super Folk Cutaway, Blue, priced at £479.
A Super Folk body that suits many players
A folk acoustic guitar is smaller and more comfortable than a full-size dreadnought. The Super Folk shape sits in the middle. It is easy to hold on the sofa or on stage, yet it still has enough body to sound full when you strum. The cutaway gives your fretting hand easier access to the upper frets, which helps when you play lead lines or solos.
If you prefer a bigger voice, take a look at our dreadnought guitars. If you want something smaller still, the small and travel guitars are worth a browse.
Solid mahogany top and electronics
The TW4CEBLA has a solid mahogany top rather than laminate. A solid top is made from a single piece of wood, and it tends to open up and sound richer as the guitar is played. Mahogany is known for a warm, even tone with a gentle midrange, so it works well for fingerpicking and for relaxed strumming.
It is also an electro-acoustic, so you can plug straight into an amp or a PA when you play with others. You can see more choices in our full electro-acoustic guitars range.
How to choose
- Body size: Super Folk is a comfortable all rounder for most adults.
- Top wood: solid mahogany for a warmer sound.
- Budget: at £479 it fits well under our guitars under £500 page.
- Finish: the blue blonde look makes it stand out from a standard sunburst.
Playing it at home or on stage
A guitar like this earns its place because it does two jobs. Unplugged, it is a pleasant instrument for the living room, with a natural acoustic voice. Plugged in, it is ready for a band rehearsal or a small gig without needing a separate microphone. Having both options in one guitar is a good reason to choose an electro-acoustic over a standard acoustic.
Remember to budget for a few extras such as a strap, spare strings and a padded gig bag.
