Tanglewood Strada: affordable acoustic guitars at £129
The Tanglewood Strada series is our entry point into acoustic guitar. There are two models, both priced at £129, and both have a spruce top. With no pickup and no fuss, they are a straightforward way to start playing or to keep a spare guitar around the house.
The two Strada models
- Tanglewood TS3 Strada Orchestra: an orchestra guitar with a balanced, comfortable body. A good pick if you want to strum and pick with equal ease.
- Tanglewood TS5 Strada Dreadnought: the classic big-bodied shape, with more volume for chords and singing along.
Both are straight acoustics, so you do not need an amp or any cables. Just tune up and play.
Orchestra or dreadnought?
Choose the orchestra if you prefer a slightly smaller body or plan to do some fingerstyle. Choose the dreadnought for a bigger sound and a more traditional strummed feel. If you are still unsure, our dreadnought acoustic guitars page explains the shape in more depth, and folk and orchestra acoustic guitars covers the mid-sized alternatives, including any folk guitar you might want to compare.
Why start with Strada
At £129 each, the price is low enough that you can learn the basics without a big outlay. Both guitars share the same spruce top and the same price, so you are not paying extra for either shape. Because the two models are so close in cost, the decision is about comfort and sound only. If you are buying for a child or teenager, or for someone returning to the instrument after a long break, the lower price makes it easier to commit. Once you know what you like, you can move up to a more expensive series and keep the Strada as a spare for travel or the shed.
What to buy alongside
A new player needs a few extras. A set of fresh guitar strings, a clip-on tuner from tuners and capos and a padded gig bag will see you through the first few months.
Where to go next
When you are ready to move up, the Tanglewood Roadster series starts at £229 and adds electro-acoustic options. Players who want a solid top should look at Reunion Pro. You can also see every model under guitars under £300.
Both Strada guitars include free UK delivery from Armstrong Guitars.
