Tanglewood Tiare Tenor Ukuleles

Five Tiare Tenor ukuleles from £129 to £269. Choose plain acoustic or plug-in models, with standard, 5 string or 8 string layouts.

Tenor Ukulele Choices in the Tiare Series

A tenor ukulele gives you a longer neck and a bigger body than a soprano, which means more space for your fingers and a fuller, rounder tone. The Tiare Tenor series has five models, priced from £129 to £269, and each one takes the tenor idea in a slightly different direction.

Electro-acoustic tenor ukulele models

Three of the five have built in electronics, so you can plug straight into an amp or a PA. They are the Tanglewood TWT 19 Electro-Acoustic Ukulele with an ebony top at £129, the Tanglewood TWT 15 E Electro-Acoustic Ukulele with a Pacific walnut top at £229, and the Tanglewood TWT32E Electro-Acoustic Ukulele with a koa top at £269. If gigging or busking is on your mind, an electro acoustic tenor ukulele saves you from needing a separate microphone.

Extra strings for a bigger sound

Not every tenor has four strings. The Tanglewood TWT31 Ukulele is an 8 string tenor with a mahogany top at £169. Strings are paired in courses, which gives a shimmering, chorused sound that is lovely for strumming. The TWT32E above is also an 8 string. The Tanglewood TWT33 Ukulele is a 5 string tenor with a Pacific walnut top, also £169, and the extra string widens the range of notes you can reach.

How to choose

  • On a budget: the TWT 19 at £129 is the cheapest way into the series, and it has a pickup.
  • Plug in and play: any of the three electro-acoustic models.
  • Something different: the 5 string or 8 string models.
  • Top wood: mahogany for warmth, walnut for a slightly brighter edge, koa for the premium option.

If a tenor feels too large, take a look at the Tanglewood Tiare Concert or Tanglewood Tiare Soprano ranges. You can also browse all Tenor Ukuleles and every Electro-Acoustic Ukuleles model we stock.

Which one first?

If you have never played a tenor, the TWT 19 is a friendly starting point because it keeps the price low while still giving you a pickup for later. If you already play ukulele and want something with more character, the 5 string TWT33 and the two 8 string models give you a sound that a standard four string cannot match. Think about where you will play most often, then pick the top wood and layout that suit that space. Larger tenor bodies also feel comfortable for players with bigger hands.
