Jumbo acoustic guitars
A jumbo guitar has the largest body in the acoustic family. We currently stock three Tanglewood jumbo acoustic guitars, all Super Jumbo shapes with a pickup fitted, priced from £229 to £469. Each one is a jumbo electro acoustic guitar, so it works unplugged at home and through an amp on stage.
How a jumbo guitar sounds
The big, deep body moves a lot of air. The result is a loud, full voice with a strong bass and a rich mid range. It suits hard strumming, singer songwriters and anyone who wants their guitar to cut through a band. The trade off is size. A jumbo is bigger to hold than a dreadnought, so try one seated before you buy.
The three models
- Blackbird TB TB7E at £229, a mahogany topped Super Jumbo and the lowest priced way into the shape.
- Reunion Pro TRU7CEAZ at £399, with a solid spruce top.
- Winterleaf TW7CEAVB at £469, a Super Jumbo cutaway with a solid mahogany top in an Autumn Vintage finish.
Which to choose
The TB7E is the one for tighter budgets, and its mahogany top gives a warm tone. The Reunion Pro adds a solid spruce top, which brings extra clarity and projection. The Winterleaf is the pick if you want a solid mahogany top plus a cutaway to reach the higher frets comfortably.
Jumbo guitars are less common than dreadnoughts, which makes them a distinctive choice. Players who already own a smaller acoustic often add a jumbo as a second guitar for louder, bolder playing. The three models here give you a clear step up in price and wood, so it is easy to see what each extra pound buys you. Because all three have electronics, you can plug straight into an acoustic guitar amplifier without any extra fitting. Jumbo guitars also reward a good strap and a padded case, since the body is wide and the guitar is heavier on the shoulder than a smaller instrument. Strings matter more on a jumbo too, because fresh ones keep the bass tight and the top end bright.
If a jumbo feels too large, our folk and orchestra guitars are lighter and easier to hold, and the full acoustic guitar range covers every other body shape. All three jumbo guitars come with free UK delivery.
