Tanglewood TB7E Blackbird Super Jumbo Electro-Acoustic Guitar

Big body, big sound: a black super jumbo in mahogany

The Tanglewood TB7E is the biggest-bodied guitar in the Blackbird range. It is a super jumbo electro acoustic guitar with no cutaway, made for players who want volume, depth and a lot of room in the sound.

A body built for volume

The jumbo shape is wider and deeper than a standard dreadnought. That extra air space gives more low end and a larger sound when you strum. It works well for solo performers, who need one guitar to fill the room, and for players who accompany a singer.

Mahogany tone

The top, back and sides are mahogany. The tone is warm and rich, with a smooth midrange and rounded highs rather than a sharp, glassy edge. Notes sustain nicely, and the guitar responds well when you dig in.

Electronics and finish

Tanglewood Premium Plus electronics are fitted, so the guitar is ready for the stage or the studio. You can adjust the tone from the instrument itself. The fingerboard is engineered wood. The Smokestack Black Satin finish is dark and understated, and it feels smooth under the hand.

On stage, a guitar this size gives the sound man plenty to work with. The low end is solid and the volume holds up when you play hard, which suits strummers and rhythm players. At home it works just as well for slow, loose chords where you want the guitar to sound large and warm.

• Super jumbo body, no cutaway
• Mahogany top, back and sides
• Premium Plus electronics
• Smokestack Black Satin finish

Because it is so large, try to think about comfort. Sit with it in mind if you are used to a smaller body. If you want something more compact from the same range, look at the TB5SE or the TB5CE, which share the wood and electronics. For a black jumbo electro acoustic at £229, the TB7E gives you plenty of guitar.
