Tanglewood TW7CEAVB Winterleaf Super Jumbo Cutaway Electro Acoustic Guitar

Big-bodied mahogany warmth with a cutaway and pickup

The Tanglewood TW7CEAVB is the biggest body in this part of the Winterleaf range: a super jumbo with a cutaway, a solid mahogany top and a built-in preamp. If you sing over a strummed guitar and want plenty of volume and low end, this jumbo electro acoustic guitar is made for the job, at £469.

Why a super jumbo

A jumbo body has a wide lower bout and a lot of air inside. That gives you a deep, full sound and serious projection when you play unplugged, so chords fill a room without you having to dig in. The cutaway on the treble side lets your fretting hand travel further up the neck when you want to take a melody higher.

All-mahogany tone

The top is solid mahogany, and the back and sides are mahogany too. Mahogany tops sound warmer and more rounded than spruce, with a strong middle and smooth, soft-edged trebles. On a body this size that means a big but mellow voice. Hard strumming stays full rather than harsh, and lighter fingerpicking still comes through with sweetness and sustain. A solid top also tends to open up as it is played over the years.

• Super jumbo body with a treble-side cutaway
• Solid mahogany top on a mahogany body
• Techwood fingerboard
• Tanglewood Premium Plus electronics with a built-in tuner
• Autumn Vintage Burst in high gloss

Plugging in and the finish

The Tanglewood Premium Plus system lets you set the EQ on the guitar, and the onboard tuner saves carrying a pedal to open mic nights. It is designed to keep the natural acoustic voice when you go through a PA or amp, so it suits gigs, rehearsals and home recording. The Autumn Vintage Burst blends from darker edges into a warmer centre, and the gloss lets the mahogany grain show through.

Choosing between Tanglewood Winterleaf guitars mostly comes down to body size. If a super jumbo feels too big under your arm, the TW5 dreadnought and TW4 super folk models offer mahogany-topped versions in smaller shapes. If you want the biggest sound in the series, the TW7CEAVB is the one to pick, and we deliver it free in the UK.
