Tanglewood TW4CEBS Winterleaf Super Folk Cutaway Black Electro Acoustic Guitar

Dark gloss looks over a warm mahogany voice

Black Shadow Gloss gives this Tanglewood TW4 a sleek, moody look that suits a stage, a studio or a dark bedroom wall. Under the paint, the TW4CEBS is a black electro acoustic guitar with a super folk cutaway body and a solid mahogany top, at £449.

Why pick the black finish

A gloss black guitar never looks out of place. It sits well with dark clothes and a black strap, and it keeps the focus on you and your playing rather than on the wood grain. If you play in a band, it tends to blend with amps and stands instead of standing out. Of all the TW4 colours, this is the most understated choice.

Size and sound

The super folk body is smaller than a dreadnought, with a narrower waist and less depth. You can hold it close, and it is easy to play for long spells on a sofa or a stool. The cutaway opens up the top of the Techwood fingerboard for lead lines and chord shapes high on the neck.

Tonally, a solid mahogany top on mahogany back and sides gives a focused, earthy sound with plenty of midrange. It leaves space for a singing voice, so it works well when you accompany yourself. Picked notes sound round and full, and hard strumming stays controlled.
