Tanglewood TRS4CE Rosewood Smart Super Folk Cutaway Electro-Acoustic Guitar

Solid cedar and rosewood in a comfortable cutaway body

The Tanglewood TRS4CE is a cutaway electro acoustic guitar from the Rosewood Smart range. It suits players who want a warm, responsive solid wood guitar that is ready to plug in, and who like easy access to the upper frets.

Cedar top, rosewood body

The top is solid cedar. Cedar speaks quickly and gives a soft, rounded tone, so light fingerpicking comes through with plenty of detail. The back and sides are rosewood, which adds depth in the low end and a clear, ringing top end. Together they give a full voice that still sounds sweet when you dig in and strum.

If you are shopping for a solid wood acoustic guitar with a more mellow character than spruce, this is a good place to start.

Super folk shape with a cutaway

The super folk body is a comfortable size to sit with and balanced enough to suit most playing styles. The cutaway opens up the higher frets, which helps if you play lead lines or like to move up the neck. The fingerboard is Eboncore, a smooth, hard-wearing material that feels good under the fingers.

Plugged in and finished well

Enya electronics are built in, so you can go from the sofa to the stage without adding a separate pickup. The natural gloss finish lets the grain of the cedar and rosewood show.

• Solid cedar top with rosewood back and sides
• Super folk cutaway body

If you play left-handed, the same guitar is available as the TRS4CELH. If you would rather have a bigger, louder body, compare it with the dreadnought TRS5SE in the same series. For a cedar and rosewood guitar that is easy to live with on stage and at home, the TRS4CE is a strong pick at £549.
