Tanglewood TWGS 12 Medium Light .12 to .53 Acoustic Guitar Strings

More tension and volume from a Medium Light set

Looking for guitar strings with a little more drive? The Tanglewood TWGS 12 is a Medium Light set, gauged .12 to .53, made for steel-string acoustics. It gives you extra push for strumming while staying clear enough for fingerstyle.

What makes the gauge different

Compared with a lighter set, you get slightly higher tension and more volume. That extra weight helps the bass notes ring out boldly, while the trebles stay clear and singing. Players who want an expressive range and a responsive feel tend to settle on this middle ground. It is still comfortable, but you will notice it is a touch firmer under the fingers than the .11 set.

Coating and construction

Each string is made from fine metals and chosen alloys, then treated with Tanglewood's Fibreflex polymer coating. The coating helps resist rust and corrosion, so the sound stays lively and the set keeps its tuning for longer. Tanglewood road-tested the range over many years, so it copes with both stage and studio work without fuss.

Gauges in the set

• 1st, E: .053
• 2nd, A: .042
• 3rd, D: .032
• 4th, G: .024
• 5th, B: .016
• 6th, E: .012

Choosing your set

If your guitar is a dreadnought or another larger body and you like a strong, projecting voice, this is a sensible pick. It also suits players who dig in when they strum and want the strings to answer back. If your fingers prefer a lighter touch, step down to the Custom Light TWGS11 at £12. Classical players should look at the TWGS C nylon set at £9 instead, as steel strings do not belong on a nylon-strung guitar.

The TWGS 12 costs £11.99, and delivery in the UK is free.
