Tanglewood TWCRSFCE Crossroads Super Folk Cutaway Acoustic Guitar, Whiskey Burst

Room to roam up the neck in a mid-size body

Reaching the high frets is easy on the Tanglewood TWCRSFCE, thanks to a cutaway in the upper body. This cutaway acoustic guitar pairs a Super Folk shape with all-mahogany construction, and it suits players who mix chords with lead lines and want a comfortable mid-size body.

The Super Folk shape

Super Folk sits between a compact parlour and a full dreadnought. The waist is tucked in, so the guitar rests securely on your leg, and the body is big enough to give a confident, even volume. It works for strumming along to songs and for fingerstyle, without feeling bulky on a long evening of playing.

What the cutaway gives you

On a guitar without a cutaway, the body gets in the way of your hand as you climb past the point where the neck joins. Here the treble side is cut away, so solos, chord voicings high up the neck and capo positions near the body are all within reach. If you are moving on from basic open chords, you will soon find yourself using that space.

Mahogany tone and finish

Mahogany is used for the top, back and sides. It gives a warm voice with a strong middle, which keeps melodies clear and stops strummed chords sounding harsh. The Eboncore fingerboard is dark and hard-wearing. Whiskey Burst Satin completes the look with a sunburst fade and a smooth, low-sheen feel.

• Cutaway that frees up the top of the neck
• Mid-size Super Folk body, comfortable sitting or standing
• All-mahogany construction for warmth and a full midrange
• Satin finish that hides fingerprints

Compared with the TWCRP parlour in the same series, the TWCRSFCE is bigger, louder and better suited to lead playing. Left-handed players should look at the TWCRSFCELH instead. For a right-handed player who wants one tanglewood crossroads guitar that covers everything from campfire chords to melody work, this is a strong pick at £199, and we deliver it free in the UK.
