Tanglewood TJ4CE Java Super Folk Cutaway Electro-Acoustic Guitar

Super folk comfort with open access to the high frets

Reach the top of the neck with ease on the Tanglewood TJ4CE, a super folk cutaway electro acoustic guitar from the Java range. It's built for the player who mixes rhythm work with lead lines and melodies, and wants a solid top instrument that is ready to go through a PA.

Why the cutaway helps

The single cutaway scoops away part of the upper bout, so your fretting hand can get to the higher positions without a fight. That makes solos, capo work high up the neck and chord inversions far easier. The super folk body itself is a comfortable middle size: fuller sounding than a parlour, yet easier to sit with than a dreadnought.

Inside the Java tonewood mix

A solid spruce top drives the sound, giving you a bright, clear attack that suits fingerstyle, flatpicking and strumming alike. Behind it is a three-piece back of amara framing a centre stripe of spalted mango, and the sides are amara too. Amara brings warmth and balance, while the mango adds a little extra depth. Under a natural gloss finish, the dark lines in the spalted wood make a real feature of the back.

• Solid spruce top over amara and spalted mango
• Techwood fingerboard
• Cutaway for clear access to the upper frets
• Natural gloss finish

Fishman Presys on board

Plugged in, the Fishman Presys preamp gives you EQ to balance bass and treble, a phase control for dealing with feedback, and a tuner that sits right on the guitar. Your amplified sound stays close to what you hear acoustically, which is what you want at a gig or recording at home through an interface.

The TJ4CE shares its woods and electronics with the rest of the Tanglewood Java series, so the choice comes down to shape. Pick this one if a cutaway matters to you and you like a mid-sized body. Want something without a cutaway? The TJ3E orchestra keeps the classic outline. It's £649, and we deliver free across the UK.
