Tanglewood TW47RE Sundance Reserve All-Solid Mahogany Super Folk Electro-Acoustic Guitar

Solid mahogany top to bottom for a warm, woody voice

Mahogany on the top, back and sides gives the Tanglewood TW47RE a sound that is warmer and drier than a spruce or cedar topped guitar. It is a mahogany acoustic guitar with Fishman electronics in a comfortable super folk body, and it suits players who love a mellow, focused tone for fingerstyle, blues and singer-songwriter work.

What an all-mahogany build sounds like

A solid mahogany top is denser and less bright than spruce. The tone has a gentle top end, a strong middle and a woody character that many players describe as earthy. Because the back and sides are solid mahogany too, the whole guitar speaks with one consistent voice, and nothing jumps out too sharply.

That makes it easy to sit in a mix with a vocal. Strummed chords sound round, and fingerpicked lines come across smooth and even. The rosewood fingerboard adds a comfortable feel under your fretting hand.

Plugged in with Fishman Presys Plus

The onboard Fishman Presys Plus system lets you shape the amplified sound with its EQ. You can add a touch of treble to cut through a band, or pull back the bass in a boomy room. It is built to keep the plugged-in tone close to the natural mahogany sound.

• All-solid mahogany top, back and sides
• Super folk body that is easy to hold sitting or standing
• Fishman Presys Plus EQ for stage and recording
• Natural gloss finish that shows the deep brown grain

How it compares in the Sundance Reserve range

The TW45RE and TW45RVSE share the same super folk shape, solid mahogany back and sides and electronics, but they use a solid cedar top. Cedar gives a little more sparkle and a quicker attack. The TW47RE trades some of that brightness for warmth and a softer edge.

Pick the TW47RE if your playing leans towards fingerstyle, slide or quieter songs where a smooth, warm sound matters more than sheer sparkle. If you want a bigger, louder body with no electronics, the solid cedar TW15R dreadnought is the one to look at.
