Tanglewood TWX6CEPW Winterleaf Exotic Pacific Walnut Cutaway Electro-Acoustic Guitar

Pacific walnut and mahogany for a rich, even tone

The Tanglewood TWX6CEPW is a cutaway electro acoustic guitar with a Pacific walnut body. It sits in the Winterleaf Exotic series and is a good fit if you want a refined looking Grand Auditorium that handles both fingerstyle and strumming.

It costs £549 and comes with onboard electronics already fitted, so you can plug in straight away. The wood choice is the talking point. Pacific walnut is less common on acoustic guitars than rosewood or mahogany, and that gives this model a distinctive look in a shop window, on a stand at home or on stage beside the more usual spruce and mahogany guitars other players bring along.

Tonewoods

The top is solid mahogany with a Pacific walnut veneer. The back and sides are Pacific walnut. Mahogany adds warmth and a strong midrange, while the walnut helps keep the notes clear and balanced. Expect a smooth sound rather than a sharp one.

Neck, shape and access

The Grand Auditorium shape is a good middle ground in size, easy to sit with and loud enough for small gigs. A Venetian cutaway lets your hand reach the higher frets without strain. The fingerboard is Eboncore.

Electronics

Tanglewood Premium Plus electronics are built in. You get an integrated tuner and simple controls, which is handy when you plug in for a gig or a quick recording session.

Finish

A natural gloss finish lets the Pacific walnut grain show through. Because the wood is natural, no two guitars look exactly alike.

• Solid mahogany top with Pacific walnut veneer
• Pacific walnut back and sides
• Venetian cutaway
• Eboncore fingerboard

Within the range, the TWX6CEBW offers black walnut in the same finish, and the TWX6CEK adds koa in autumn burst. Pick the TWX6CEPW if you like the look of natural walnut and want a warm, steady voice that sits easily behind vocals.
