Tanglewood NSP4EG Northstar Pro Offset Green Electric Guitar, Metallic Emerald Green

Jewel-toned green on an offset body

If you want a green electric guitar that is not a novelty, the Tanglewood NSP4EG is worth a look. It has an offset body, a poplar body wood, a maple neck and two single coil soap-bar pickups. The finish is Metallic Emerald Green Gloss, and the price is £229.

Emerald Green gloss

The metallic green has depth, going darker in shade and brighter under direct light. Against the stained maple neck it looks warm rather than cold. This is the colour to pick if blue or red feels too common.

Playing and comfort

The offset shape is comfortable on a strap and on your knee. The neck is maple with a caramel stain, and the fingerboard is Techwood. Chrome die cast machine heads keep the strings where you tune them. It is a practical guitar for rehearsals, home practice and gigs.

Single coil voice

The soap-bar single coils give a bright, open tone. Chords ring out clearly and single notes come through with a bit of snap. Add overdrive or a fuzz pedal and the sound thickens up without turning to mud. The poplar body helps to keep the response balanced.

Offset guitars have a loyal following among indie, surf and alternative players. The shape feels balanced, and the lower body sits comfortably when you practise at home. Pair it with a small amp and a few pedals and you have a flexible rig for not much money. The soap-bar pickups keep things simple, with no extra switches to learn before you can play.
