Tanglewood NS54 Northstar Pro Electric Folk Style Solid Body Electric Guitar

A P90 electric guitar in a folk-style shape

The Tanglewood NS54 is a solid body electric guitar from the Northstar Pro series, and some people call it the Northstar Fifty Four. It has an electric folk-style body, a single P90 pickup and a satin finish. If you want an electric guitar that looks a little different from the usual shapes, this one is worth a look.

Basswood body, mahogany veneer

The body is made of solid basswood, covered on top by a thin mahogany veneer. Basswood gives the guitar a warm, even core, and the veneer lets the grain show through the satin finish. The colour is Whiskey Barrel Burst, a soft brown burst that looks vintage without being shiny.

One P90, plenty of range

A single P90 handles the sound. P90 pickups are known for a bit of bite and a clear, open tone. Roll back your picking and you get clean, ringing chords. Dig in or add some gain and it turns gritty and full. With one pickup there is nothing to second guess, so you can just plug in and play.

Maple neck and easy handling

The neck is maple with an engineered wood fingerboard, and the chrome die cast machine heads are there to help the guitar hold its tuning. The neck shape suits both open chords and single note lines, so it works for rhythm one night and a solo the next.
