Tanglewood NS2NA Northstar Single Cutaway Electric Guitar, Natural Matte

A natural matte finish with a relaxed feel

What sets the Tanglewood NS2NA apart from its Northstar siblings is the finish. It is Natural Matte, a low sheen look that shows off the wood rather than hiding it. Underneath, this single cutaway electric guitar shares the same solid poplar body and two single coil pickups, for £139.

Matte finish, easy feel

A matte surface has a quiet, understated look. It will not shout across the room, and it suits players who prefer a guitar that looks like a working instrument. The caramel maple fingerboard and the Roseacer striped maple neck add warmth to the pale body.

Playing the NS2NA

The solid poplar body keeps the weight comfortable. The single cutaway lets you reach the higher frets easily for solos. Chrome die cast machine heads sit on the headstock.

Sound

Two single coil pickups, one at the neck and one at the bridge, give you clean and clear tones. Clean settings have a bright edge, and pushing an amp harder brings out a gritty bite. It is a straightforward setup that is easy to understand and quick to get a sound from.

Other finishes

If you would like more colour, look at the NS2CB in Metallic Cadillac Blue or the NS2VW in Vintage White Gloss. Both cost £139 and share the same build. Choose the NS2NA if you want the natural, matte look.

It is a sensible pick for a first electric guitar or a low cost second guitar. Pair it with a small practice amp and you can start playing straight away. Delivery in the UK is free.

Looking after a matte guitar

Matte finishes do not show fingerprints the way a high gloss does, so there is less polishing to do. A soft dry cloth after playing is usually enough to keep it looking tidy. Wipe the strings too, and they will last longer.
