Tanglewood NS1CF Northstar Double Cutaway Electric Guitar, Charcoal Frost Gloss

Charcoal frost gloss, three single coils, easy playing

The Tanglewood NS1CF is a Northstar double cutaway electric guitar dressed in charcoal frost gloss, a cool dark grey with a frosted look. If you want a double cutaway electric guitar that looks a little different to plain black, this is one to consider.

Build

The body is poplar, which keeps the weight down and gives a balanced tone. The double cutaway lets your fretting hand reach the upper frets with little effort. Chrome die cast machine heads hold the tuning steady.

Neck feel

You get a maple neck with a Roseacer stripe and a caramel maple fingerboard. The stripe adds a touch of contrast against the grey body, and the maple gives a smooth, fast surface for chords and single notes.

Tones on offer

Three ceramic single coil pickups deliver bright, clear sound. Clean settings give you sparkle, and a little gain gives you bite for lead playing.

• Charcoal frost gloss finish
• Poplar body, double cutaway shape
• Chrome die cast machine heads
• Three ceramic single coil pickups

Who it suits

This is a good fit for players who find black too plain and bright colours too loud. The grey tone sits between the two and goes well with both dark and light strap colours. The comfortable body and simple controls make it friendly for learners, and the clear sound gives you honest feedback on your picking and chord changes. Gigging players may also like it as a light backup that looks smart on a stand.

Every NS1 in the range shares this spec, so the choice is down to looks. Compare it with the NS1IS in inca silver gloss if you want something lighter, or the NS1BK if you would rather go fully black.
